DEAN THOMPSON SHIELD
The Dean Thompson Shield for respect was awarded at the Year 6 assembly. This award is given every year to a Year 6 pupil who, throughou their school life, has consistently shown respect to all adults both inside and outside of school.
The shield was contributed by Mrs Higginbottom in memory of her godson Dean.

Numeracy
Let's work on rapid recall of times tables ... using shaving foam! GREAT FUN!

Can you guess the name of this giant 3D shape?

We made some 3D shapes and used them to make bubbles.

Building Challenge: Can you make the biggest (free standing) tower using art straws, tape and newspaper?

SUCCESS!

ART
We went outside to draw some CARNIVAL people; we used a range of bright coloured chalk and wrapped up warm. Look at some of the AMAZING pictures!

History

In our Victorian school Miss Banks taught standard 6 today (Jane from 'History Alive' taught Y6 today. They were transported back in time to VICTORIAN BRITAIN.
What a great experience!

ROBOT INVASION!

Using our robots we wrote stories and poems, created passports and drew our ideal helpful robot. If you could have a robot to help you, what would it do? Year 6 came up with loads of ideas, for example:

complete our homework

do the washing up

produce chocolate and toffee on command

clean our bedrooms

help mums with housework (that's lovely!)

We have read a story called 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty. WE LOVED THIS STORY! At the end, we discovered that the story was true and based on a real young boy called Jim Jarvis. This young boy had a difficult childhood but in the end he was saved and helped by Dr Barnie (Thomas Barnardo). Barnardo's is a charity which is still successful after all these years.

Year 6 completed an egg challenge. The childen had to decorate a hard boiled egg and care for it for a week. The children succeeded in the challenge and the eggs were really cared for (we only had a few eggs that had to attend eggy hospital)!

Here are some pictures of the eggs created:

We produced some AMAZING carnival masks in Art.
