RE

Subject Leader Mrs J Harrison

We follow the Lancashire agreed syllabus for R.E. which allows children to explore the world in which they live, including themselves and others. We seek to educate our pupils about different religions, and therefore develop an understanding and tolerance of others whilst at the same time providing opportunities to reflect on what is important to the individual child.

RE

In accordance with the agreed syllabus, Christianity covers 50% of the R.E. curriculum. Children will also cover three units each of Islam and Hinduism and one unit each of Buddhism, Sikhism and Judaism.

Current Events

Year 5 have been learning about Buddhism. They made the Lightfold Path Wheel.

Do you like their display?

Year 6 have been learning about Hinduism in RE. They went on a trip to the Hindu Temple in Bolton.

Year 5 have learnt about Christmas in France. Do you like their display?

Year 3 did a fantastic class assembly comparing advent and Christmas in England and France.

Year 4 & 5 Art Club learnt about Islamic art. This display shows their fantastic work.

March 2011 was RE month. Year 2  created a wonderful display on Hindu worship.

When learning about Judaism each child in Y6 has designed and made a kippa to reflect their hobbies, interests and personalities.

Some pupils from St Joseph's RC Primary School visited our school to talk about the theme of forgiveness. Anderton pupils had prepared questions all about the sacrament of reconciliation. The children from St Joseph's gave thoughtful and detailed answers. THANK YOU!

For Harvest 2011 Y2 led an assembly highlighting the importance of sharing at this time of plenty for our country. It was very moving and culminated in a collection of coins which we hoped to use to purchase a goat and plant an allotment for a third-world country (via the Christian charity Oxfam). We were SO PROUD that we raised £135.50 which will allow us to buy 3 goats, 2 allotments and 1 bag of seeds. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO GAVE SO GENEROUSLY!

Mrs Patel (Shiv's mum in Reception) visited Y6 and talked about a Hindu wedding. The children asked questions and the session was very interesting!
